REPRODUCTION & REARING

Challis Creek Ranch, LLC and RandRforHorses.com Reproduction and Rearing Program offers state-of-the-art services and the best possible ongoing care of your mare and, eventually, her foal. In addition, we offer a comprehensive and diversified training program from simple halter breaking to complete professional training (visit www.CCRHorses.com for training options) for your foal.

In addition to assisting in arranging professional transportation for mares and their foals to and from servicing stallions for re-breeding, complete A.I. services are available through a local veterinarian devoting a portion of his practice to this service. Success rates vary, of course, depending upon numerous factors all of which are reviewed in complete detail with owners interested in considering A.I. breeding. On premises periodic Ultrasound evaluations prior and subsequent to breeding affords the best possible conditions for a maximum success rate as well as ongoing follow up evaluations as the need might dictate.

Because of the numerous advantages outlined on this website, we generally try to keep all mares in a herd environment (though more controlled in a smaller pasture and, of course, away from the geldings and non-bred mares whenever necessary) up to the last months of pregnancy. At that time mares are moved to 16' x 32' stalls and eventually with access to indoor foaling stalls where monitored even more closely until the foal is delivered. Grains and grain products as well as other supplements are included in your mare and/or foal's diet as veterinarian prescribed and/or as client requested to keep your horse in optimum condition.

Based upon our own experience and the ever growing acceptance in the "horse world" we recommend and include (with client approval, of course), as the initial part of our foal service training, "Foal Imprinting". In accordance with general guidelines established by Robert M. Miller, D.V.M., in his publications and video entitled "Early Learning, The Complete Training of the Newborn Foal During Its Imprinting & Critical Learning Periods", plus other of his works, his techniques are utilized to teach your foal to accept grooming, hoof trimming, clipping, veterinary examinations, trailer loading, and will be unafraid of paper, plastic, strange objects, and most new experiences. In addition, your foal will lead, tie, be more calm, friendly, respectful, obedient and retains an initial human bonding that is never forgotten. Again, this results from procedures done during these Imprinting and critical learning times immediately following the birth of your foal.

Ongoing professional training for your foal is offered as your needs and desires dictate Please visit www.CCRHorses.com for specific information regarding our ongoing training services.
